COMIC BOOK FUNNY LIVE AGAIN

Comic Book Funny session number three was good stuff!

"I AM SO HAPPY TO BE PART OF THIS IDEAS EXCHANGE"

Bernard Caleo (left), Clint Cure (right) and Neale Blanden (cropped out of the picture because he's evil) did great chat about comics and animation. A couple more photos on the blog.

Next week: the very last Comic Book Funny live session, featuring Nicki Greenberg, Andrew Weldon and myself.

COMIC BOOK FUNNY LIVE

The first two Comic Book Funny events have now been and gone. Both were a lot of fun, but the second was very well attended -- hopefully this'll continue for the next two!

See me blog for a few more photos.

And check out the very nice Age article featuring Comic Book Funny participants Nicki Greenberg, Ben Hutchings and myself! Photo by Simon Schluter.

Next week: the theatrical stylings of Bernard Caleo, plus Clint Cure and Neale Blanden drop some animation realities on you.

NEW EPISODE OF COMIC BOOK FUNNY, MORE ABOUT COMIC BOOK FUNNY AT COMEDY FESTIVAL, "THE PRECINCT" GOES TO FRANCE

Since I haven't bothered to update this front page lately, you may not know that TODAY is the first session of COMIC BOOK FUNNY at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

This is where indy-type cartoonists get on stage, show you their work, talk about where they came from and what is a funny comic. It's on every Saturday of the Comedy Festival (Mar 22, Mar 29, Apr 5, Apr 12)!

Today we have Jo Waite, Dean Rankine and Pat Grant on stage at 4pm in Trades Hall's Bella Union Bar (yes, it's named after Sy Tolliver's place in DEADWOOD). Before you head into your comedy shows, drop by the bar, listen up, have a beer, say g'day, buy comics.

Next week at COMIC BOOK FUNNY: A NSW/ACT invasion by Glenn Smith, Ross Tesoriero and Ben Hutchings!

There's also a lovely new episode of the COMIC BOOK FUNNY podcast (episode #2) to listen to over on me blog. David Blumenstein (me) and Ben Hutchings (him) talk about sex. That get you going?

I will get around to blogging this properly, but THE PRECINCT, my ever-in-development animated cop show, has started moving forward seriously. Film Victoria has given Team Precinct a travel grant so that Woody, Team Precinct's producer, can fly to Canada and France to whore the show around to international distributors and networks.

This is quite exciting -- it could lead to triumph or heartache but we are now officially on the way and on the radar. Attendees of MIPTV in Cannes, look out for Woody as he flings his sexy-looking Precinct papergoods around!

COMIC BOOK FUNNY x 2

Ben Hutchings and I have done another Comic Book Funny podcast (officially, our first one) in which we talk about taking our comics out to comic shops, sweating, "who is your audience?", etc. And there's an EXCLUSIVE interview with Stan Lee that'll have you gasping, "I had no idea he liked murdering people".

Hear the new podcast here.

The other thing we talk about is an upcoming series of events I'm organising which ALSO are called Comic Book Funny...

... because I couldn't be stuffed drawing two logos.

THIS Comic Book Funny is four sessions of live comics chat, demonstration, cartoon screenings etc, taking place at Trades Hall in Melbourne during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Every Saturday at 4pm, the Bella Union bar at Trades will be filled with cartoonists and comics. Entry is free, you can pop in and have a look and a listen to the comics people, buy their comics and then drink beer with them if yer want. Dates and a schedule will go up next week when the media release goes out.

Finally, a message from Sticky, the zine shop: they're having a zine fair. I'm going. Details:

ZINE FAIR
Saturday 9th February 2008
Noon - 5pm
In the subway, Campbell Arcade (Degraves Street Subway), under Flinders Street Station, Melbourne.

Check out the full program for the Festival Of The Photocopier at www.stickyinstitute.com.

THEY CAN TALK!

The Precinct - Making a Cop Show - The Blog

The Precinct production blog has been hijacked by our new podcast.

Comic Book Funny: episode #0

Episode #0 (the test episode): in which Ben Hutchings and myself talk local comics, conventions and other, more off-topic things. Delightful! You could waste twenty minutes in other ways, but why would you?

Hear it.
